💡 You can create an exam as soon as your blueprint is published — accepted items help later when building a form, but aren't required to create the exam shell itself.
10.1 — The Exams List
Navigate to Exam Management → Exams. The list shows every exam under your selected Organization, with columns for Blueprint, Exam Name, Exam Code, an active/published status indicator, Forms (Active Forms/Total Forms) — e.g., "1 (0)" meaning one total form, zero currently active — Type of Exam, Updated, and Created. Each row has a View/Edit button.
Click Add Exam (upper-right) to begin.
10.2 — The Create Exam Form
Clicking Add Exam takes you directly into a pre-populated Create Exam form — there's no separate blank state to fill in from scratch. The Organization and Blueprint fields default to your most recently worked blueprint, and several fields auto-fill immediately based on that selection:
- Exam Name and Exam Title: both auto-fill from the blueprint name (in this case, "A2 Spanish Speaker") and remain independently editable — these are two distinct fields, not merged into one.
- Exam Type: defaults to Live; click the dropdown to switch to Beta if piloting.
- Exam Code: auto-generated from the blueprint (e.g., "A2S001") rather than manually typed.
- Default Exam Form Maximum Time: auto-fills from the blueprint's Exam Duration (90, matching what was set back in Blueprint creation).
- Untimed Exam: a toggle, off by default, for exams without a time limit.
- Exam Description: a free-text field, empty by default.
10.3 — After Clicking Create
You land on the created exam's General tab. The header now shows the exam's status badge (Inactive until launched), plus Exam Code, Organization, and Blueprint for reference. In the upper-right are two checkboxes: Active and Archive.
Active is the activation switch that makes the exam bookable (the same activation moment referenced in Step 13), and Archive retires the exam while keeping its records, similar to the Archive pattern on JTAs. Don't check either box yet; confirm behavior once you're ready to test Step 13.
The same fields you set during creation appear here, editable, plus a new Translated Languages section showing the Primary Language (English). At the bottom: Cancel, Back, Next, and Update.
❓ Do I need to click Update after every tab, or does Next carry my changes forward?
[VERIFY] Both Update and Next are present on every tab, suggesting Update saves in place while Next may or may not save before advancing. Until confirmed, click Update before using Next on any tab where you've made a change, to avoid losing edits.
10.4 — Advanced Settings
Click Next (or the Advanced Settings tab directly) to continue. This tab holds exam-level configuration grouped into four sections:
- Reference Materials — a toggle (Present in Modal Window) plus a Reference Button Label Text and Reference Button URL field. Default label is "References" if none is set.
- Performance Based Test — a single checkbox, Has Performance Based Test, unchecked by default (only relevant if your exam includes hands-on lab components — not applicable here).
- Results Configuration — Send Results and Send Badge checkboxes, both unchecked by default.
- Non-Secure Browser Settings — five toggles, all on by default: Force Full Screen, Disable Printing, Disable Clipboard, Disable Right Click, Prevent Multiple Monitors.
10.5 — Reaching Exam Forms
Click Next again to reach Exam Forms. On a newly created exam, this tab is empty — "No Rows To Show" — with column headers already in place (Form Name, Status, Created, Edited, Active) and an Add Form button in the upper-right.
💡 This is where Step 10 ends. Building your first form — the pool health gate, passing score, and form generation — is covered in Step 11: Form Assembly.
