How to Complete ID Verification for Your Unproctored Exam

What You Need:

• A device with internet access (computer, smartphone, or tablet).
• A government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver's license, passport, or national ID card).

Step 1: Access Your Exam Dashboard

1. Log in to Certiverse
2. Click My Exams in the top navigation bar. 
3. This opens your Exam Dashboard. Find your reserved unproctored exam under the Reservations tab.

Step 2: Start the ID Verification Process

1. Click the "VERIFY ID" button next to your exam.
2. A consent screen appears: "Certiverse verifies your identity." It explains that you'll photograph a valid ID and take a selfie, that only Certiverse has access to the verification data, and that Certiverse uses face recognition technology to confirm it's you (your verification data is stored temporarily, for 24 hours, while it's processed). Review the linked Certiverse Privacy Policy if you'd like the details.
3. Click Agree and continue to proceed, or Decline if you don't wish to continue (verification, and your exam, can't proceed without your consent).

Step 3: Choose Your Device

After you agree, you'll see a QR code with the option to continue on your mobile device or stay on your current one:

• To use your phone: Scan the QR code with your mobile device's camera. This opens the verification flow on your phone, so you can use its camera to capture clearer photos.
• To stay on this device: Click Continue on this device to complete the same steps here instead (useful if you don't have a second device handy).

Both paths walk you through the same capture steps below, just on different screens.

Step 4: Capture Your ID and Selfie

• Front of ID: When prompted, place your driver's license, passport, or other government-issued photo ID on a flat surface in a well-lit area and capture the front. 
• Back of ID: You'll then be asked to flip your ID over and capture the back. If your ID doesn't have a back side (for example, most passports), you can tap Skip instead of photographing a blank surface. 
• Selfie: Finally, take a selfie so Certiverse can match your face to your ID photo.

Tip: keep the ID flat, well-lit, and fully inside the frame for each shot; blurry or cropped images are the most common reason a submission comes back for a retake.

Step 5: Check Your Verification Status

• Successful: A green "ID Verified" icon appears.
• Failed: Status shows "Failed Pending Review" for manual verification.
• In Progress: Displays "Verification In Progress" until completed.
• Consent Declined: Verification cannot proceed without consent.

Step 6: Access Your Exam

Once verified, either automatically or manually, the "START EXAM" button will be enabled. Check your My Exams dashboard for the "ID VERIFIED" status before proceeding

Troubleshooting Tips:

• Ensure Good Image Quality: Resubmit if images are blurry or unclear.
• Check ID Legibility: Ensure text is undamaged and readable.
• Use Proper Lighting: Capture images in a well-lit space for best results.

Security & Privacy

• Data handling: Certiverse verifies your identity against a physical, government-issued photo ID. How that check is performed depends on the type of exam you are taking.Unproctored and AI Assisted Proctoring exams use automated ID verification. Your ID image and selfie are processed inside Certiverse's own Microsoft Azure environment in the United States, and are used only to confirm that you are the person shown on the ID you presented. The comparison is made strictly one-to-one against your own ID, never against a database, watchlist, or pool of other individuals, and produces a confidence score. Your ID image, selfie and the biometric data derived from them are not disclosed to any external AI processor or third-party identity verification vendor. If the check does not succeed, your session is routed to a live proctor or a support agent for human review; identity is never denied automatically.Live proctored exams do not use automated ID verification. A human proctor verifies your ID at check-in and conducts a room scan, so your ID appears in the proctoring session recording, which is handled by our session infrastructure provider, Twilio, under a data processing agreement.
  Retention: For automated ID verification, your ID image, your selfie and the biometric data generated from them are deleted within 24 hours of capture. The non-biometric result of the check, your name, ID type, ID expiration date and match confidence, is deleted within 7 days of the exam session. Proctoring session recordings are deleted within 30 days, unless a session is flagged for a misconduct or security investigation, in which case it is kept only as long as needed for that review and any appeal.
  Privacy Compliance: Identity verification and proctoring data is encrypted in transit and at rest, restricted by role to authorized proctors and support staff on a need-to-know basis, and access is audit-logged. Certiverse never sells, leases or trades biometric data.
