Step 8.1: Item Statuses Explained

💡 Every item in Certiverse carries a workflow status, visible in the Item Management sidebar with live counts. This page explains what each status means, who acts on items in it, and where items go next.

Accepted / In Progress — the total active pool: everything that counts toward or is working toward your blueprint targets.

  • Accepted: items that cleared review. These count toward form building and topic targets. This is the destination status every item is working toward.
  • In Progress — items still moving through the workflow:
    • Draft: started but not yet submitted. Only the author sees these; they live in the author's My Items.
    • For Review: submitted and waiting for a reviewer to pick them up. A growing For Review count with no movement means review capacity, not writing, is your bottleneck.
    • For Revision: returned to the author with feedback for targeted changes. The item's core is sound; specific issues need fixing.
    • For Rewrite: returned for substantial rework. More is wrong than a quick edit can fix, but the testing point is still worth pursuing.
    • Under Review / Under Revision / Under Rewrite: currently open in someone's hands. The "For" statuses are queues; the "Under" statuses mean someone is actively working the item right now.
❓ What's the difference between For Revision and For Rewrite?

Degree. For Revision means the reviewer wants targeted fixes: a clearer stem, a stronger distractor, a fuller rationale. For Rewrite means the item needs to be substantially reconstructed: the approach didn't work, but the testing point still matters. Both return the item to its author with feedback; the label tells the author how much work to expect before resubmitting.

Discarded Items — items removed from the active pool:

  • Rejected: removed by a reviewer as unsalvageable. Rejected items stay visible for audit but no longer count toward targets. If the testing point still matters, a new item gets written for it.
  • Author Cancelled: abandoned by the writer before completion (the "Abandon Item" action in the editor).

Import — items arriving from outside:

  • Pending Import: imported items awaiting processing before they enter the workflow.

Deleted — removed items retained for audit purposes.

❓ Why keep rejected and deleted items at all?

Defensibility. A certification program needs to show its work: what was written, what was removed, and why. Discarded and deleted items form part of that audit trail. They cost nothing to retain and answer questions that come up years later, like whether a challenged exam question was previously rejected in another form.
