P-Value Inc., d/b/a Certiverse
Effective Date: August 17, 2026
This Remote Proctoring & Biometric Consent Addendum (“Addendum”) supplements and is incorporated into the Candidate Terms of Use (“Terms”) between you (“Candidate,” “you,” or “your”) and P-Value Inc., d/b/a Certiverse (“Certiverse,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). This Addendum applies whenever you register for, or take, an exam that is administered using live and/or automated remote proctoring or remote identity verification. Capitalized terms not defined in this Addendum have the meaning given in the Terms.
THIS ADDENDUM CONTAINS A WRITTEN RELEASE AND CONSENT TO THE COLLECTION AND USE OF YOUR BIOMETRIC IDENTIFIERS AND BIOMETRIC INFORMATION, AS REQUIRED BY THE ILLINOIS BIOMETRIC INFORMATION PRIVACY ACT (“BIPA”) AND SIMILAR LAWS. PLEASE READ SECTION 4 CAREFULLY. YOU MUST AFFIRMATIVELY ACCEPT THIS ADDENDUM BEFORE YOU WILL BE PERMITTED TO BEGIN A REMOTELY PROCTORED EXAM.
1. Purpose and Applicability
To protect the integrity, validity, and security of certification exams administered on the Platform, Certiverse uses remote proctoring and identity verification technology to (a) confirm that you are the individual authorized to take the exam, and (b) monitor your exam session for conduct that compromises exam integrity. This Addendum describes what we collect for these purposes, how long we retain it, and asks for your consent.
2. What We Collect During Proctoring and Identity Verification
2.1 Live Proctoring Data
During your exam session, Certiverse (through our video and session-infrastructure provider, Twilio) collects a live video recording, audio recording, and screen-capture recording of your exam session, together with proctor notes and system-flagged “incident” markers (for example, if you leave the camera frame or a second voice is detected).
2.2 Identity Verification Data, Including Biometric Data
Before your exam begins, we ask you to (a) capture an image of a government-issued identification document (such as a driver’s license or passport) and (b) capture a live “selfie” image of your face using your device’s camera. Certiverse’s identity verification technology analyzes facial landmarks in both images to generate a mathematical representation (a “face vector” or “faceprint”) of the face shown in each image, and compares the two vectors on a strictly one-to-one basis (your ID photo against your own selfie only — never against a database, watchlist, or pool of other individuals) to generate a confidence score indicating the likelihood that the same person appears in both images. This face vector is a biometric identifier, and the confidence score and related data derived from it are biometric information, in each case as those terms are used in this Addendum and under applicable biometric privacy laws. This identity verification process, including the facial matching described above, is performed within Certiverse’s Microsoft Azure-hosted environment.
3. Consent to Recording and Monitoring
3.1 By accepting this Addendum, you acknowledge, consent, and agree that Certiverse and your Test Sponsor may video record your face, voice, desk, and immediate physical workspace, and may capture your device screen, throughout your exam session, for the purposes described in Section 1.
3.2 You acknowledge that you do not have an expectation of privacy in the physical area visible to your camera during your exam session, to the extent permitted by applicable law, and that live or automated proctors will observe your session in real time or by recorded review.
3.3 You acknowledge that your Test Sponsor may impose additional or different testing-environment requirements (for example, requiring a clear desk or a room scan), and that you are responsible for complying with those requirements as a condition of taking the exam.
4. Biometric Data — Illinois BIPA Disclosure and Written Release
This Section 4 is provided to satisfy the written disclosure and consent requirements of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, 740 ILCS 14/1 et seq. (“BIPA”), and reflects our practices for all Candidates regardless of location, unless a more protective standard is required by the law of your jurisdiction, in which case that standard applies.
4.1 Biometric Data We Collect and Why
As described in Section 2.2, we collect a scan of your facial geometry, in the form of face vectors derived from your ID photo and your live selfie, solely to verify that the person appearing for the exam is the same person whose identity was submitted at registration. We do not use this data for surveillance, advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than identity verification and, where necessary, investigation of suspected exam misconduct or fraud.
4.2 Retention Schedule and Destruction Guidelines
Certiverse permanently destroys biometric identifiers and biometric information according to the following schedule, which in all cases occurs well within three (3) years of your last interaction with Certiverse, and no later than when the purpose for collection has been satisfied, whichever comes first, consistent with BIPA Section 15(a):
| Data Type | Retention Period |
|---|---|
| Government ID image | Deleted within 24 hours of capture |
| Live selfie image | Deleted within 24 hours of capture |
| Face vectors / biometric identifiers derived from the ID image and selfie | Deleted within 24 hours of capture |
| Match/confidence result data (candidate name, ID expiration date, ID type, confidence rating — non-biometric) | Deleted within 7 days of your exam session |
| Live proctoring video, audio, and screen-capture recordings | Deleted within 30 days of your exam session, unless flagged for a misconduct or security investigation, in which case retained only as long as reasonably necessary to complete that investigation and any resulting proceedings |
This retention schedule is publicly available as part of this Addendum, which is posted at www.certiverse.com/proctoring-terms, in satisfaction of BIPA’s requirement that a written retention and destruction policy be made available to the public.
4.3 No Sale, Lease, Trade, or Profit
Certiverse will not sell, lease, trade, or otherwise profit from your biometric identifiers or biometric information.
4.4 Limited Disclosure
Certiverse will not disclose, redisclose, or otherwise disseminate your biometric identifiers or biometric information unless: (a) you consent to the disclosure; (b) the disclosure completes a financial transaction that you requested or authorized; (c) the disclosure is required by federal, state, or local law, or by a valid warrant or subpoena; or (d) the disclosure is to Certiverse’s service providers who process the data solely on Certiverse’s behalf and under confidentiality and security obligations at least as protective as those described in this Addendum.
4.5 Security of Biometric Data
Certiverse stores biometric identifiers and biometric information using encryption at rest and in transit, role-based access controls limiting access to authorized personnel (proctors and support staff) on a need-to-know basis, and audit logging, and otherwise uses a reasonable standard of care that is the same as, or more protective than, the standard of care Certiverse uses to protect other confidential and sensitive information.
4.6 Your Written Release and Consent
BY CLICKING “I CONSENT” OR OTHERWISE AFFIRMATIVELY ACCEPTING THIS ADDENDUM, YOU:
- acknowledge that you have read and understood the disclosures in this Section 4;
- knowingly and voluntarily consent to Certiverse’s collection, capture, storage, use, and (where described in Section 4.4) disclosure of your biometric identifiers and biometric information, including the face vectors described in Section 2.2, for the purposes described in this Addendum; and
- agree that this electronic acceptance constitutes your written release and consent for purposes of BIPA and any similar biometric privacy law, consistent with the Illinois Electronic Commerce Security Act, 5 ILCS 175/1-101 et seq., and the federal E-SIGN Act.
Certiverse will retain a record of your acceptance, including the date and time of acceptance, as evidence of this written release.
4.7 Withdrawing Consent
You may withdraw your consent to biometric data collection at any time by contacting support@certiverse.com before your exam session begins. If you withdraw consent, Certiverse will not be able to complete remote identity verification for your exam, and you may be unable to take the exam through this Platform unless your Test Sponsor offers an alternative identity verification or testing method. Withdrawal of consent will not affect the lawfulness of any collection or use of your biometric data that occurred before you withdrew consent.
5. Other State and International Biometric Privacy Notices
If you reside in Texas, Washington, or another jurisdiction with a biometric privacy law, Certiverse provides the disclosures in Section 4 to you as well, and will comply with the requirements of your jurisdiction’s law to the extent it imposes obligations different from, or in addition to, BIPA. If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our collection and use of your biometric data (a “special category” of personal data under the GDPR) is based on your explicit consent, which you provide by accepting this Addendum, and you may withdraw that consent as described in Section 4.7 and in our Privacy Policy.
6. California Residents — Sensitive Personal Information
If you are a California resident, the biometric information described in this Addendum is “sensitive personal information” under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (“CCPA”). Our Privacy Policy describes your rights under the CCPA with respect to sensitive personal information, including your right to limit our use and disclosure of that information, and how to exercise those rights.
7. Candidate Conduct During Proctored Exam Sessions
Misconduct is any activity or conduct that compromises, or attempts to compromise, the reputation, integrity, validity, or security of an exam, whether occurring during registration, or before, during, or after administration of the exam. Misconduct includes, without limitation:
- giving or receiving assistance on the exam, including attempting to communicate with any other person during the exam or during an unscheduled break, or using books, papers, notes, or other unauthorized study aids;
- opening, working on, or reading exam content at a time not authorized by testing personnel;
- copying, photographing, recording, or attempting to remove any exam content, in whole or in part;
- impersonation or any other act of cheating;
- failing to follow the reasonable directions of testing personnel or proctors before, during, or after the exam;
- using an unapproved calculator, mobile phone, camera, headset, computer, tablet, wearable device (such as a fitness tracker or smart watch), virtual machine, remote-access or remote-desktop software, or any other unauthorized device or software during the exam;
- permitting any other person to be present in, or to enter, your testing area during the exam without authorization;
- leaving the camera’s field of view, obstructing the camera, or disabling audio or video capture, without the proctor’s authorization; and
- providing false or misleading information during identity verification.
If Certiverse or your Test Sponsor determines that you have engaged in misconduct, your exam may be terminated, your results may be voided, and your candidacy may be suspended or terminated. As described in Section 4.3 of the Terms, you will not receive a refund of any exam fee if your session is terminated for misconduct. Certiverse may report suspected misconduct to your Test Sponsor and, where appropriate, to law enforcement.
8. Compliance with Law
You will comply with all applicable federal, state, local, and foreign laws, regulations, and rules in connection with your use of the Platform and your exam session, and will obtain any license or governmental approval required for you to take the exam. You represent that your use of the Platform does not violate the law of your jurisdiction. If use of the Platform would violate the law of your jurisdiction, you must immediately discontinue use of the Platform.
9. Relationship to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy
This Addendum is incorporated into, and forms part of, the Terms. Except as modified by this Addendum, the Terms continue to apply to your use of the Platform. Our Privacy Policy describes our broader data practices, including with respect to the data described in this Addendum.
