Cornerstone Integration

Certiverse Cornerstone Integration

Overview

The Cornerstone OnDemand (CSOD) integration uses Certiverse’s standard Cornerstone Eligibility Connector, configured for specific courses and exam store.

The integration performs the following functions:

  1. Reads courses via the Cornerstone Catalog API, for configuration at the exam level.
  2. Checks eligibility via the Cornerstone Core API (to identify the candidate) and Transcript API (to confirm their enrollment status), to confirm a candidate is eligible before they can schedule the exam.
  3. Sends results via the Cornerstone Transcript API (Complete Transcript), once the exam is complete — with one exception for failed exams (see Results Processing Behavior below).

Candidate Flow & Eligibility Verification

Eligibility verification occurs when a candidate selects the exam from the org landing page or a direct exam deep link. If not already logged in, the candidate is prompted to log in or create an account.

The candidate’s Certiverse email is matched against Cornerstone to identify their user account. If it matches exactly one Cornerstone user, that user’s enrollment status is checked for the configured course; the candidate may book the exam only if that enrollment status is In Progress. If the email matches more than one Cornerstone user account, eligibility is blocked outright with:

“Your email address is associated with multiple user accounts in Cornerstone. To continue, please reach out to your Test Sponsor to resolve this.”

Results Processing Behavior

After the exam is complete, Certiverse uses the Cornerstone Transcript API (Complete Transcript) to update the learner’s course status with the pass/fail outcome, completion date, and score — with one important exception:

⚠️ Certiverse does not post results when a candidate explicitly fails the exam. Posting both a score and a pass/fail status causes Cornerstone to automatically mark the course Completed, which triggers certificate issuance — even on a failing result. If a candidate fails, no result is posted back to CSOD. This leaves the course in In Progress status in Cornerstone. The integration relies on Certiverse’s retake rules on their end to prevent candidates from retrying without valid eligibility.

Date format requirement: Results dates sent to Cornerstone must use the format yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss. An incorrect format will cause result processing to fail on Cornerstone’s side.

Troubleshooting

System Feedback / Symptom Explanation How to Resolve
Eligibility request returns 400 error Cornerstone’s enrollment endpoint could not find an eligibility record for the candidate Confirm the candidate’s enrollment/eligibility exists in Cornerstone for the configured course; this is handled gracefully rather than surfacing a raw error
Result rejected by Cornerstone Completion date sent in the wrong format Confirm the date is formatted as yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss
Candidate received a certificate after failing Result was posted to CSOD for a failed attempt, bypassing the suppression rule Confirm the failed-result suppression is active for this org; results should never post to CSOD on a fail outcome
Candidate’s abandoned or incomplete attempt still shows a result in CSOD The suppression rule currently only covers explicit fails, not abandoned/ungraded attempts Treat as a known platform limitation and escalate to engineering rather than a per-org configuration issue
Candidate passed but course still shows In Progress in CSOD Result was not successfully posted Check for a 400/eligibility error (see above) or a date-format rejection before assuming the pass wasn’t recorded
Eligibility fails for one candidate only Email mismatch between Certiverse and Cornerstone, candidate not enrolled in the mapped course, or enrollment status isn’t In Progress (e.g. not yet started, or already completed) Confirm matching email addresses across both platforms and confirm the candidate’s enrollment status in Cornerstone is In Progress for the configured Published Course
Eligibility fails with a “multiple user accounts” message The candidate’s email matches more than one Cornerstone user account Ask the candidate’s Test Sponsor / Cornerstone admin to consolidate or disambiguate the duplicate accounts
Eligibility fails for all candidates Published Course mapping misconfigured Re-check the eligibility/course configuration — confirm the Published Course in Certiverse’s Store config matches the Cornerstone Published Course

API Calls Reference

Eligibility Verification

  1. Candidate email matched to a Cornerstone user via the Core API
  2. Enrollment in the configured Published Course verified for that user via the Transcript API, and must have status In Progress
  3. Candidate is not eligible if no enrollment is found, the enrollment isn’t In Progress, or the email matches more than one Cornerstone user

Results Posting (Complete Transcript)

  1. On exam completion, Certiverse calls the Cornerstone Transcript API’s Complete Transcript operation
  2. Not called for a failed exam
  3. Sends: completion date (yyyy-MM-ddTHH:mm:ss), pass/fail status, and score
