CertMetrics Integration

CertMetrics Eligibility & Results Integration

Overview

The Certiverse–CertMetrics integration lets CertMetrics (CM Connect, operated by Alpine Testing Solutions) stay the system of record for candidates and eligibility, while Certiverse handles exam booking and delivery. Certiverse checks eligibility in CertMetrics in real time when a candidate books, then sends results back to CertMetrics in scheduled batch files.

The integration consists of four components:

Component Direction How it works
Single Sign-On (SSO) optional CertMetrics → Certiverse CertMetrics acts as the identity provider (OIDC). Candidates arrive in Certiverse already logged in, carrying their CertMetrics candidate ID.
Deep linking CertMetrics → Certiverse Exam links in the CertMetrics candidate portal open the matching Certiverse store exam.
CertMetrics Live Eligibility Certiverse → CertMetrics At booking, Certiverse calls the CertMetrics API with the candidate ID and exam code to confirm the candidate is eligible.
CertMetrics Batch Results Certiverse → CertMetrics Completed exam results are written to CertMetrics Standard Data Exchange CSV files and delivered by SFTP on a set schedule.

CertMetrics then processes the results and updates the candidate's eligibility (for example, closing the current eligibility and opening a retake or recertification window).

Certiverse Configuration

Eligibility is set up by your Organization Admin in two steps: create a CertMetrics connector, then assign it to each store exam. Results delivery is configured by the Certiverse team.

Step 1: Create the CertMetrics eligibility connector

Available to Super Admin, Certiverse Admin, and Organization Admin roles.

  1. In the Admin Portal, go to Connectors.
  2. Select the CertMetrics tile and click Connect.
  3. Click Add Connector
  4. Enter a Connector Name. It must be unique within your organization across all providers.
  5. Enter the API key issued by CertMetrics/Alpine for your program.
  6. Click Validate
  7. Save. The connector is created only if the API key is valid.

Once saved, the API key is stored encrypted and can be replaced but never viewed in full. A connector that is assigned to a store exam cannot be deleted.

Step 2: Assign the connector to a store exam

  1. Navigate to the Store tab
  2. Click EDIT for the desired exam
  3. Locate the Eligibility Configuration tab within the Exam
  4. Under Eligibility Type, select Certmetrics.
  5. Select the Organization Connector you created.
  6. Enter the CertMetrics exam code (the course/exam identifier in CertMetrics). It defaults to the store exam code; change it if CertMetrics uses a different code.
  7. Click Save.

Several store exams can point to the same CertMetrics exam code. For example, a test center exam and an online proctored exam can share one CertMetrics code. There is no exam code search, so confirm the exact code with your CertMetrics administrator.

Step 3: Results delivery (configured by Certiverse)

CertMetrics Batch Results are set up by the Certiverse team because each program's file mapping is specific to its CertMetrics configuration. To start, send your Certiverse contact:

  • SFTP host, port, user ID, and password for the CertMetrics drop location
  • Target folder (for example, a To-Alpine/ sub-folder)
  • Preferred delivery schedule (for example, daily at 07:00 UTC)
  • Any program-specific fields CertMetrics expects (see Results Flow)

The batch result type is then assigned to each exam under Exam Management > Summary > Results Configuration.

Candidate Flow & Eligibility Verification

Candidates start in CertMetrics and are checked for eligibility the moment they select an exam in Certiverse.

  1. The candidate logs in to the CertMetrics candidate portal and clicks the exam link.
  2. CertMetrics SSO signs the candidate in to Certiverse, passing their CertMetrics candidate ID, first name, last name, and email.
  3. Certiverse opens the store exam from the deep link (or the candidate selects it from the org landing page or test center page).
  4. Certiverse calls the CertMetrics API with the candidate ID and the store exam's CertMetrics exam code.
  5. If the exam code is in the candidate's eligible exam list, booking continues. If not, the candidate sees a Not Eligible message and cannot book.
  6. Certiverse stores the CertMetrics exam authorization ID as the booking's eligibility ID.
  7. The candidate schedules (or, for unscheduled exams, starts) the exam within the eligibility dates returned by CertMetrics.

The CertMetrics candidate ID is saved as the candidate's Client Candidate ID in Certiverse. It cannot be edited by the candidate, and it is carried through to exam delivery and results so CertMetrics can match the result back to the right record.

Eligibility Flow

CertMetrics owns the eligibility lifecycle; Certiverse reads it at booking and never closes it. Eligibility is updated in CertMetrics only after it processes the results file.

Stage What happens Owner
Open CertMetrics lists the exam in the candidate's eligible exams, with an optional start and end date. CertMetrics
Checked At booking, Certiverse confirms the exam code is eligible and records the exam authorization ID. Certiverse
In use A pending or completed booking holds that authorization ID. The same ID cannot be used to book again, on this or any other store exam. Certiverse
Results pending The exam is complete and waiting for the next batch file. The candidate still cannot rebook with the same authorization ID. Certiverse
Closed / renewed CertMetrics processes the result, closes the eligibility, and opens a new one: right away for a retake after a fail, or at the recertification date after a pass. CertMetrics

Eligibility dates. If CertMetrics returns a start date, the candidate cannot book or schedule before it. If it returns an end date, the appointment must fall before it, and an unscheduled exam expires no later than that date. If either date is empty, Certiverse applies the store exam's own date rules.

No shows and cancellations release the authorization ID, so the candidate can book again with the same eligibility. Your program can choose whether no shows are also reported to CertMetrics in the results files.

Results Flow

Certiverse sends results to CertMetrics as a set of CSV files in the CM Connect Standard Data Exchange format, uploaded by SFTP on a fixed schedule (typically once a day). Results are not sent in real time.

File Contents
Candidate Client Candidate ID (CertMetrics candidate ID) and demographics
Exam One row per delivery: exam ID ("CV" + delivery ID), exam code, date, 3-letter language code, score, pass/fail, exam medium, hold status, voucher ID and test center ID where used
Section One row per scored section or topic, with the section score
Item One row per item: item name, section, candidate response, correct answer
Comments (optional) Item-level candidate comments, prefix cmnt; enabled only on request

Each batch file name includes a date and time stamp, down to minutes and seconds, so files never overwrite each other.

Program-specific mapping. Field values such as the scaled score, section IDs (root or leaf topic), and how multiple-response answers are written are agreed with each program and CertMetrics during setup. Changing your exam blueprint or item topics can change what appears in the Section file.

CertMetrics Configuration

Your CertMetrics/Alpine administrator completes these items; Certiverse needs the outputs from each.

SSO

CertMetrics is the OIDC identity provider. Provide Certiverse with the Client ID, Client Secret, and well-known (discovery) URL, and add the Certiverse redirect URI supplied by your Certiverse contact. Each login must pass the CertMetrics candidate ID plus first name, last name, and email.

When a candidate signs in, Certiverse matches accounts in this order:

  1. An existing account with the same SSO ID: the candidate is logged in to it.
  2. No SSO match, but an account with the same email: the SSO login is linked to that account.
  3. No match: a new Certiverse account is created.

The SSO connection is set to store the CertMetrics candidate ID as the Client Candidate ID, which the eligibility check depends on.

Exams and eligibility

  • Make sure each exam exists in the CertMetrics exam catalog with an exam code (external ID).
  • Share the list of exam codes with the person configuring store exams in Certiverse.
  • Issue a CertMetrics API key for Certiverse to use in the eligibility connector.
  • Configure your CertMetrics rules for retake and recertification eligibility, since CertMetrics opens new eligibility after it processes results.

Deep links

Add a link to the Certiverse store exam in the CertMetrics candidate portal for each eligible exam. Your Certiverse contact will provide the store exam deep link URL; the candidate is signed in through SSO on the way.

Troubleshooting

Most issues come from a mismatch between the candidate ID or exam code in CertMetrics and what Certiverse sends.

What the candidate sees or reports Likely cause How to resolve
Not Eligible when selecting the exam The exam code is not in the candidate's eligible exams in CertMetrics Confirm the candidate has open eligibility in CertMetrics, and that the store exam's CertMetrics exam code matches the CertMetrics catalog exactly.
Not Eligible for every exam The account has no Client Candidate ID, or the wrong one Have the candidate log out and sign in again through the CertMetrics portal, not directly at Certiverse. Check the Client Candidate ID in the Support Portal.
"The Eligibility for this exam has been used. If you tested recently and need to test again, please wait for your exam results to be processed and new eligibility to be created." The exam authorization ID is tied to a pending or completed booking Wait for the next results batch to be processed by CertMetrics. If the candidate must retest sooner, CertMetrics can issue new eligibility.
Cannot pick a date, or the exam expired early CertMetrics eligibility start or end date limits the window Check the eligibility dates in CertMetrics and extend them if needed.
Two Certiverse accounts for one candidate The candidate signed up directly with a different email before using SSO Contact Certiverse support to merge the accounts so bookings and results stay together.
Result missing in CertMetrics Batch not yet run, SFTP delivery failed, or the record did not match in CertMetrics Check the batch schedule and SFTP drop folder. Ask Certiverse support to confirm the file was sent and to reprocess the result if needed.

Connector errors (admins). If the connector will not save, the API key is invalid or expired; request a new key from CertMetrics. If a connector cannot be deleted, remove it from every store exam first.
