This article walks you through everything you need to know before and during your proctored exam on Certiverse — from logging in and downloading the required software, to navigating the exam interface and receiving your results.
Logging in to Certiverse
How you access your Certiverse account depends on how your organization has set up your registration. There are two login paths — select the one that applies to you.
1 My organization requires SSO or LMS login ⌄
If your organization requires you to log in through their own learning management system (LMS), you will need to follow specific steps to access your Certiverse account and launch your exam. Please refer to your Exam Organization's FAQ pages for instructions on how to get access.
ℹ Not sure whether SSO applies to you? Contact support@certiverse.com for assistance.
2 I created my own Certiverse account ⌄
If you created your Certiverse account using an email and password, or signed in via a social login option (LinkedIn, Google, GitHub, etc.), you can log in directly at certiverse.com. No additional steps are required.
Finding your exam
After logging in, all of your exam activity is managed from one place. Navigate to the My Exams dashboard — this is where your active and past reservations are stored, and where you can review, reschedule, launch, or cancel your exam. You can access it directly at certiverse.com/#/dashboard.
Downloading Safe Exam Browser (SEB)
Depending on your exam, you may be required to use the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) to launch it. If so, you will be prompted to install SEB during the checkout process for your reservation. SEB is also used to run the System Compatibility Check, which verifies that your device meets the requirements.
You can review the full device requirements here: System Requirements: Live and AI Proctoring
⚠ VPN and internet filtering software: Any VPN services or filtering software — whether personal or company-issued — may interfere with your exam session. Make sure to deactivate them before launching. If you are using a company device, contact your IT department for assistance ahead of your exam date. |
Launching your exam
When you are ready to begin, go to your My Exams dashboard, locate your reservation, and press the Launch Exam button. We recommend starting this process at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time to leave room for any technical troubleshooting that may be needed.
ℹ You have up to 45 minutes after your scheduled start time to launch your exam, but your exam timer will only begin once the proctor has completed the pre-flight check and officially releases your exam.
If you experience any issues while launching, contact support@certiverse.com immediately for assistance.
Camera, microphone & screen setup
After launching your exam, you will be prompted to share your camera, microphone, and screen with the proctoring system. Use the drop-down menus to ensure you are selecting the correct devices. Before proceeding, verify that your microphone is functioning correctly by checking the audio response indicator at the bottom of the screen.
Exam pre-flight
Before your exam is released, your assigned proctor will guide you through a series of pre-flight checks to verify your identity, confirm your environment is suitable, and ensure exam integrity. The steps below outline each part of this process in order.
1 Identity verification ⌄
Your proctor will ask you to present a valid, non-expired, government-issued photo ID. Please have it ready before your exam begins. Your Certiverse profile name must match the name on your ID exactly. If there is a discrepancy, contact support@certiverse.com ahead of time to request a name change.
For full ID requirements, see: Certiverse Identification Requirements
ℹ To confirm that your camera can clearly focus on your ID before the exam, run the System Compatibility Check in Chrome: Compatibility Check (without SEB)
2 Room scan ⌄
The proctor will ask you to perform a full scan of your room and desk area using your camera. This step ensures that your environment meets exam integrity requirements before your session begins.
For a full breakdown of what is required during the room scan and how to prepare your space, see the Room scan & environment requirements section below.
3 Application check (non-SEB exams only) ⌄
If your exam does not require the Safe Exam Browser, the proctor will ask you to close all applications currently running on your device. They will also review your Task Manager and System Tray (Windows), or Activity Monitor (macOS), to confirm no unauthorized background processes are active. This step is essential for maintaining exam integrity.
ℹ We recommend doing a full restart of your computer before your exam time to ensure all background processes are closed before you begin.
Room scan & environment requirements
During the pre-flight, your proctor will ask you to perform a full scan of your room and desk using your camera. Use the Camera Preview button on screen as a guide to make sure you are capturing the entire area — you can hide it once you are done. Please ensure the following before your exam begins:
- Sit at a hard surface, preferably a desk, in a quiet and private room.
- Remove any items within arm's reach — the proctor will ask you to clear them if they are present.
- If you use multiple monitors, unplug the additional ones and use only your laptop's built-in screen or your primary desktop monitor. Remove them from your desk or cover them with a blanket or towel.
- Drinks are permitted if they are in a clear, label-free container.
- No other people should be able to enter the room while your exam is in progress.

Navigating the exam
Once your exam has been released by the proctor, you can begin answering questions. The exam interface includes a few tools to help you manage your progress throughout the session.
1 Flagging questions for review ⌄
Use the Flag Exam button to mark any question you are unsure about.
When toggled on, the question will be saved so you can return to it later. Once you have answered all questions, you will reach a review page where you can revisit flagged items by pressing Review flagged questions in the bottom-right corner. You are not limited to flagged questions on the review page — all questions and answers are accessible there before final submission.
2 Accessing exam documentation (SEB only) ⌄
If your exam organization has approved the use of reference documentation, a button will be available at the bottom-center of your screen. Pressing it opens a pop-up with a navigation tab where you can browse the documentation available for your exam.
ℹ This feature is not available for all exams. Contact your exam organization to confirm whether documentation access applies to yours.
3 Adjusting zoom & font size (SEB only) ⌄
If the exam content is difficult to read, you can use the Zoom tool to increase the font size. Access it from the context menu at the top-right corner of the SEB screen, then use the + / – buttons to adjust to a comfortable size. You do not need to notify your proctor to use this feature, though you may ask them for help locating it.
Exam disconnections
If you get disconnected at any point during your exam, your progress will be saved automatically. You will have up to 30 minutes to reconnect and continue. If you are unable to reconnect within that window, your answered questions will be submitted automatically and graded based on what you completed.
General rules & prohibited behavior
To maintain the integrity of the exam and ensure a fair experience for all candidates, the following behaviors are strictly prohibited during your exam session:
Reading exam content out loud or mumbling
Looking away from the exam screen
Dressing inappropriately for a public setting
Smoking or vaping
Eating
Using unauthorized materials
Interacting with third parties
Leaving the camera view
Using profanity or abusive language toward your proctor
Rescheduling your exam
If an unforeseen circumstance prevents you from taking your exam at the scheduled time, you may reschedule directly from your My Exams dashboard, provided there are more than 24 hours remaining until your exam. If your exam is within 24 hours, contact support@certiverse.com for further assistance.
For step-by-step instructions, see: How to Reschedule a Live Proctoring Exam
Special accommodations
If you require special accommodations for your exam, reach out to your exam sponsor for information on how those requests are handled. If you do not have a direct point of contact with your exam organization, email support@certiverse.com, and the support team will direct you to the right place.
Receiving your results & certificate
After completing and passing your exam, it may take up to 72 hours for your answers to be validated. Once that process is complete, your full score report, certificate, and badge will be sent to you by email. If you have not received them after 72 hours, please contact your exam organization for follow-up.
